A Hippogriff(Engl.Hippogriff ) is a magical creature that has the forelegs, wings, and head of a giant eagle, but has the body, hind legs, and tail of a horse. Hippogriff have cruel, steel-colored beaks and bright, orange-colored eyes. The claws on their forelegs are half a foot long and look deadly.

Hippogriff are very proud creatures and they must be given due respect by bowing to them and waiting for them to do the same. Eye contact should be maintained at all times. Hippogriff can be tamed, but should only be kept by experts.

The hippogriff's diet consists mainly of insects, birds and small animals such as ferrets. When they breed, they build a nest on the ground and only lay a single, fragile egg. The little one usually hatches within 24 hours. Young hippogriff can fly within a week, but it takes many months before they are strong enough to accompany their parents on long journeys.

Hippogriff owners are required by law to cast a disillusionment spell on the creature every day to prevent muggles from seeing it.

Hippogriff are held at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and Rubeus Hagrid used them in a Caring for Magical Creatures class in 1993.

Sirius Black escapes with the help of Buckbeak Hippogriff before the Dementors can kill him with their kiss.

During the Battle of Hogwarts, Buckbeak's Hippogriff were led into battle against the Death Eaters. [1]
