Xavier continues to struggle to survive in a coma. His subconscious remembers twenty years back when he visited his friend Daniel Shomron in Haifa, Israel. Shomron had built a clinic for Holocaust victims and introduced Xavier to both one of his volunteers, a former concentration camp victim who called himself Magnus, and the catatonic Gabrielle Haller, who had been in that state since the war. Xavier used his telepathic powers to bring Gabrielles out of a coma. While he was doing this, he saw strange images of the Nazis turning Gaby into a gold statue. During the weeks that followed, Magnus and Charles, helping Gaby with her recovery, became friends and even discussed the possibility of mutant evolution. Gaby and Charles fell in love. Gaby was kidnapped and the hospital attacked by armed Hydra terrorists. To save lives, Magnus used his magnetic powers to kill the terrorists. Magnus and Charles learned from a survivor where they were taking Gabrielle and followed the HYDRA agents to Africa. HYDRA, under the leadership of Baron von Strucker, was there to find a treasure of gold that the Nazis had hidden in the last days of World War II. The coordinates were given to Gaby for safekeeping during the war. Magnus and Charles tried to free Gaby, Strucker attacked them, but Magnus easily defeated him. Outside, he told Xavier that he was going to use the gold to make sure mutants win the coming conflict and left the two when Gaby awoke from her unconsciousness. In the present, Xavier finally finds the strength to wake up. Later, the X-Men (without Xavier, who still has to recover, but including Carol Danvers) are invited to a farewell party on Lilandra's yacht. But it is a trap and the unconscious X-Men are handed over to the Brood by Deathbird.
The X-Men don't remember being trapped by Deathbird and the Brood. They further believe that they are guests at a Shi'ar celebration in their honor. Only Wolverine, whose senses perceive two contradicting realities, feels that something is wrong. But even he cannot free himself as a strange woman, whom he recognizes as Brood-Queen, who infects the X-Men with something. Later he realizes with terrible pain that they are not on the Shi'ar homeworld, but somewhere else.
When Storm doesn't believe him, he escapes the apartment alone. In another part of the palace he watches a guard transform into a brood. Wolverine realizes that this will also be the fate of the X-Men and flees outside into the dangerous jungle, pursued by Brood warriors. Tormented by pain, hallucinations, and battling Scavengers and the Brood, Logan doesn't give up until his transformation into a Brood begins. Logan fights against this and his healing factor eventually defeats the Brood Embryo. However, there is no such hope for his friends and he decides that in the worst case, he will have to kill them ...
Painful evolutionary modifications are made to Carol Danvers by the Brood. Wolverine sneaks into the lab, kills and rescues the Brood, though neither of them knows what permanent damage they may have done to Carol. Meanwhile, Cyclops is trapped in a nightmare where all of his friends have turned into brood and the same fate awaits him. He forces himself to wake up and realizes that something is wrong. Cyclops finds Storm, who is in a kind of trance and apparently experiencing a similar nightmare as he, and wakes her. The two are found by Wolverine and Carol and together they plan to free the others and then steal Lilandra's yacht to escape. After Kitty and Nightcrawler have been freed, they enter the yacht with the help of Storm, where Kitty accidentally kills a Brood. Meanwhile, the others free Lilandra and begin a battle with a horde of Brood warriors. Wolverine tries to kill the Brood Queen against Cyclops' objections, but before he can strike they are transported to Lilandra's yacht. As the X-Men flee with the yacht, they are watched by another ship that follows them. On Earth, the Starjammers, Xavier and Moira have drawn their conclusions and the Starjammers set off for the world of Brood. Moira fears the loss of Lilandra and the X-Men could destroy Xavier ...
The Brood continue to stalk the X-Men and try to stop them without killing them. The X-Men fight back with the weapons of their ship and their strength. Storm finds that her powers are out of control and refuses to continue killing after accidentally wrecking a Brood ship. During the fight, the ship's engine is damaged and Kitty decides, against the warnings of the others, to repair the ship from the outside, where she is hit by rubble. Carol Danvers' body is now responding to the change the Brood have made. She transforms into a form of energy and uses her new powers to destroy the Brood ships. Kitty's repairs are complete and the yacht enters warp space. Carol later uses her powers to regenerate the depleted matter-antimatter that powers the ship. While the X-Men go through repairs, Nightcrawler is surprised that Kitty has recovered so quickly from her near-fatal injuries. Storm gets sick and doesn't know why until she realizes that there is a living being growing inside her. When she realizes the truth, she steals a shuttle and leaves the ship. Cyclops demands answers from Wolverine, who finally reveals the truth to the others and tells them that they are harboring brood embryos. Carol goes nuts and tears a hole in the ship's hull, endangering the others as she flies out into space. Back on earth, Xavier notices that Illyana is hiding something, but no longer has the strength to take care of it ...
The X-Men threaten to be sucked into space, but they manage to seal the hole. Storm is now suffering from a personal crisis alone in her shuttle. Should she kill the embryo inside herself, contrary to her beliefs, or allow it to kill her if she transforms? The decision is made for her as the transformation begins, but the shuttle enters the core galaxy and the sudden influx of energy enables Ororo to push the transformation back. It conducts so much energy through itself that it destroys the embryo and the shuttle. She floats in space, about to die too, until she is swallowed up by something large. On the ship, Lilandra and Wolverine decide to return to Broodworld for revenge. Cyclops reluctantly agrees. Wolverine and Nightcrawler later have a conversation about belief or the lack of it, and the two friends decide to search the ship for alcohol. Kitty has a nightmare in which she becomes one with the brood. When she wakes up, she is comforted by Colossus and the two show their true feelings for each other for the first time. Suddenly they are connected to an astral form of Storm that looks like a vampire. All X-Men are visited by various astral forms of Storm, until finally Storm, with her normal appearance, appears in front of them while the ship is swallowed up by something large. Ororo explains that the creature is an acanti - a space whale - and that she and it are now one. Meanwhile, Moira informs Charles about a letter from Mr. Fantastic about a young mutant named Karma, whose powers are threatening to get out of control. Xavier refuses to take care of it until Moira threatens that she can also send Karma to the Hellfire Club or Magneto. Finally, Xavier gives in and calls Reed Richards.
"Look at what they've done ... They've murdered so many of us, the world has grown used to it. No more."
  • Contents (continued):
Near the Brood homeland, Binary (Carol Danvers) destroys a Brood outpost where the Acantic, an ancient breed of gingantic telepathic space whale, are enslaved by the Brood. Storm appears, who can apparently survive in space without life-sustaining measures. Storm explains that it is just an astral projection and leads Carol to a newborn Acanti with whom she has become one. The X-Men ship is also within the whale, and Carol reunites with them. The X-Men want to kill the Brood, but Storm offers an alternative: They are supposed to free the Acanti, who have enslaved the Brood, with the newborn Acanti in which they are found, this would be possible if they to the Acanti's "soul" bring him, which is in an Acanti corpse on the planet. The X-Men agree and make a plan. Storm / the Acanti and Binary will distract the brood while the others beam down to secretly get the "soul". Without them knowing, one of them is already being controlled by his embryo, which telepathically informs the Brood Queen of their plans. Carol and Storm take care of the planned diversion. Despite their great powers, they are almost captured when unexpected help appears in the form of the Starjammers. On the planet, the X-Men fight against the world's predators. Wolverine notices more and more that the Cyclops is behaving strangely until he finally takes off his visor and reveals himself to be part of the Brood. Cyclops attacks Wolverine while Colossus and the others are defeated and captured by the arriving Brood Queen and her guards. However, Kitty was previously separated from the others and was saved from the Brood by a tiny purple dragon. When one of the Brood destroys a tunnel wall, light penetrates from the cave behind it and injures the Brood. In the meantime, Cyclops' metamorphosis is really beginning and his powers are spiraling out of control. Wolverine throws himself into the beam, frees himself from his bonds and takes Cyclops and the Queen hostage, forcing the Brood to free the others. He follows Kitty's trail into the glowing crystal cave, where they find the Acanti soul. Unfortunately, the presence of the queen and the embryos within them begins to spoil the "soul" as the transformations begin. When Wolverine decides to kill her, the Queen mocks him that, even if he succeeds, there will still be another embryo that will spoil his world. He is stopped by Carol, who uses her energies to "soul" to free and bring them together with the newborn Acanti. Before the soul leaves the heights, it cleanses the X-Men from the embryos and turns the queen into crystal. The world of the Brood is torn apart, but the Starjammers beam the X-Men onto their ship. On the ship, they are connected to Storm, which has also been restored from the soul. Everyone is in the mood to celebrate until Wolverine announces that he has found out what the Queen meant by her final words: there is another Brood embryo and it can only be in Charles Xavier.

    Opinion:
That was great, the "Brood Saga" is also considered a timeless classic and in this case I can only agree. Exciting, creepy and also with surprising twists, I really liked the whole thing. It is also interesting that the further development from Carol to Binary takes place here, which is often discussed later ... If you wanted to criticize something, that would probably be the end, the "soul" is something Deus-Ex-Machina, especially the one in it To heal X-Men and restore Storm ... I also found the short parts to Karma and Magik nice, because the New Mutants are already being prepared ...

    Conclusion:
Great storyline, now looking forward to the New Mutants ...
"Look at what they've done ... They've murdered so many of us, the world has grown used to it. No more."
  • Yes, it was very exciting, I'm now also hyped about the New Mutants, hope that more will come more often now ...

    Content:
Rachel van Helsing is attacked by Dracula and turned into his servant. Kitty Pryde is very upset about her parents' decision to get a divorce. In the night she is possessed by an evil power. Storm has dreams that show Count Dracula still has power over her. She travels alone to England that night to confront him about it. She is greeted by Rachel and Dracula and instructed to steal the Montesi Formula, a magic formula that could lead to Dracula's downfall. Storm's attempt is thwarted by Colossus and Kitty. Storm is brought back to Dracula's castle, but before she can be transformed, she is rescued by the other X-Men. During the battle, Kitty reveals that she is obsessed with Lilith, Dracula's daughter and his worst enemy. Dracula can defeat her, but is then betrayed by Rachel, who wipes him out. Wolverine then redeems her by ramming a stake through her heart. Lilith speaks through Kitty's body again and thanks the X-Men for helping destroy her father. She leaves Kitty's body and Kitty finds that she has no memory of what happened. The X-Men wonder if this is really the end of this conflict.

    Opinion:
Well, Dracula again, it was just tolerably exciting for me. But I think that it is probably much more interesting as part of a Dracula Complete Read, because you can perhaps better classify the contexts and events ..
In terms of time it probably belongs before the Brood saga, I am now also changing my reading order, now taking: comicsbackissues.com/comic-boo…en-read-order-chronology/, everything is actually chronological (including solos and spin-offs) up to to the Black Vortex.

    Conclusion:
Not so great, probably without any consequences for the X-Men ...

    Content:
In Scotland, Moira MacTaggert rescues Rahne Sinclair, a young mutant with a werewolf shape, from a lynch mob and brings her to Xavier's school. Xavier is still depressed about the apparent death of the X-Men, but eventually he decides to help Rahne and another new student, Xi'an Coy Manh, who has psychological control over others. Meanwhile, Donald Pierce of the Hellfire Club has decided to kill several young mutants, including the Brazilian teenager Roberto daCosta, who has just discovered his solar-powered super strength, the Kentucky-born Sam Guthrie, who uses his powers (biothermal energy that he gets through his skin gives up and throws himself forward, he is invulnerable) while working in a mine pit and discovered the Cheyenne Danielle Moonstar, whose powers of illusion are difficult to control. Pierce works independently from the other members. He decides Guthrie could be useful and recruits him for the club. Xavier receives a letter from Danielle's grandfather asking him to help his granddaughter. Xavier, Moira and the girls travel to see him only to find that Black Eagle has already been killed by the Hellfire Club, whose henchmen are attacking them now. Together with Danielle, she can defeat the henchmen and learn from the other youngsters Pierce is after. They decide to split up: Xavier and Rahne should look for Sam Guthrie, while Moira, Shan and Dani fly to Brazil. After a clash with the police, Dani and Shan follow Roberto, who snuck out at night. The Hellfire Club has kidnapped his girlfriend and they offer to join them if they release his girlfriend. The girls try to help, and in the ensuing fight, Roberto's friend Juliana is killed. Meanwhile, in Kentucky, Rahne and Xavier are attacked by Sam, who works for the club, and Xavier is captured.Rahne secretly follows them to the headquarters, where Pierce intends to extract the knowledge of Xavier and Tessa and thus lobotomize them. Rahne receives support from the others who arrive, and together they fight the henchmen, Pierce and the confused Sam. Pierce seems to have the upper hand until Rahne manages to free Xavier. Sam Guthrie switches sides after learning that Pierce is trying to kill the others. Later, back at the Xavier Institute, he welcomes his new students, including Sam Guthrie.

    Opinion:
I liked it very much, it's especially fun to see the origins of the characters here. How damn young they were when you consider, for example, that Roberto now leads an Avengers team ... I also like that Claremont is building up a very diversified group here again: an American, a native, a Vietnamese, a Scottish and a Brazilian. Brings a breath of fresh air to the institute, Xavier is also seen in a slightly different role, I'm curious to see how the relationship with Xavier and with each other will be expanded and how the X-Men will react when they come back ...

    Conclusion:
Very good, I'm looking forward to the next issues ...

    Content:

The New Mutants watch as the reluctant Karma gets a makeover from her teacher Stevie Hunter. When Dani makes a joke about eight, she unconsciously uses her powers and projects terrible images of Karma's past in front of everyone: her parents being killed and how she and her siblings are kidnapped by Thai pirates. Angrier, Karma attacks her until Sunspot separates the two. Sad and agitated, Dani leaves the room and wanders through the institute and looks at the X-Men’s rooms. Later, the New Mutants are called to their first Danger Room Training by Professor Xavier. Your mission is to simply cross the room. Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Sunspot and Karma fail and when it is Dani's turn, she leaves the Danger Room out of fear. Wolfsbane later finds her on the institute's property by using her wolf senses. Wolfsbane tells her that sometimes she wishes she could stay a wolf forever. Unhappy with her strength, Dani Wolfsbane tells how she showed her family their death and that school is their last hope. Leaving her alone, Wolfsbane joins the other New Mutants who are leaving school for a trip to the mall. You are being followed by two agents from Project Wideawake. Meanwhile, Dani returns to the institute and sneaks back into the danger room, where she activates the test sequence designed for her. Although the program includes robots that are not affected by their mental powers, Dani achieves the given goal. However, she is suddenly hit from behind by an energy beam and stunned. When she comes to, she is still in the Danger Room, but in an X-Men training scenario with a huge monster, the security protocols have been switched off. Meanwhile, Moira MacTaggert and Illyana Rasputin meet the Israeli ambassador Gabrielle Haller and learn that she has an autistic son with psi powers. She needs help but doesn't want Xavier to be involved as he doesn't know he is the boy's father.
Danielle Moonstar manages to escape the monster in the Danger Room by climbing a mountain. As she tries to find the exit, she is approached by another monster who tells her that Dani cannot survive as she is getting closer and closer to the truth. Dani falls off the cliff and hits the ground heavily. Her last thought is with her dead parents. Meanwhile, the other New Mutants and Stevie Hunter eat ice cream at the mall and make friends with some of the kids who live nearby. While Stevie calls the school to check that everything is okay, the teenagers are approached by federal agents who work for Project Wideawake who know they are mutants. Henry Peter Gyrich and Sebastian Shaw, the people behind the project, are watching everything and are happy that everything is going according to plan. They want to recruit the mutants for the government. When the New Mutants are being taken away, unexpected help comes in the form of Colonel Mike Rossi. He and Stevie manage to distract the agents, forcing them to access Plan B - a group of Sentinels. It comes to a fight, in the end the New Mutants can win. When they return to the institute, she finds Dani in the danger room, scared but unharmed. Stevie realizes that Dani's description of the monster fits a Brood, but wonders who switched off the security protocols in the Danger Room, since only Xavier and Moira have the necessary rights. It is revealed to the reader that Xavier has a Brood Egg and the alien's control over Xavier grows stronger.
At night Dani Moonstar is haunted by nightmares about the Demon Bear and the Brood. She wants to talk to Xavier about it, but Moira MacTaggert hears him talking about her on the phone in his office. He says Danielle shows signs of schizophrenic behavior, including paranoia. Depressed and with the thought of being a danger to her teammates herself, Dani considers suicide. The next morning she confides in the rest of the New Mutants. Shortly afterwards, the entire school seems to have turned into a strange, organic material. they are attacked by the monster from Dani's dream, the Brood Queen. They do not know that this is growing in Xavier and, with the help of his telepathic powers, strengthening Dani's powers, which are the trigger for the changes in the school. After a while, Dani realizes that she is the source and asks Cannonball to knock her out, which makes the illusions disappear. Dani later considers leaving the team, but Sunspot and the others keep her from doing so, as they are friends and no monster can tear them apart. They still don't know that their real enemy is Xavier. On Muir Island, Banshee witnesses Illyana sing a strange song in honor of some old friends. He suspects that she is referring to the X-Men, but actually Illyana is thinking of her time at Limbo.

    Opinion:
Great, I love the intense characterization of Dani, but everyone else gets a profile too, especially karma at the beginning. (If I understand correctly, there is even a suggestion of rape ... ) I also like the relationships with each other, Claremont has already implemented this perspective of a young mutant with Kitty and manages it here at least as well. I was also happy about the special role of Stevie Hunter, I hope we will see her here more often ... The integration into the continuity of the X-Men series is also great, the story of Xavier and Brood is continued here, but the same will be true Propelled storylines around Illyana and Legion, that's how I love my comics.

    Conclusion:
    Fantastic, I want more ...
"Look at what they've done ... They've murdered so many of us, the world has grown used to it. No more."
