Asana Celebrates 50,000 Paying Businesses and 6 Accelerated Growth Quarter

At Asana, our mission is what drives everything we do. It reads: to support people on their way to success and to give all teams the opportunity to work together effortlessly. Today we are happy to share some milestones on our way to fulfill our mission:

  • We have more than 50,000 paying companies. That's an increase, given 20,000 paying customers six quarters ago. In addition, we have more than a million organizations that have registered for our free product.
  • Our sales growth, which is around 90% compared to the previous year, has increased in each of the last six quarters. We believe Asana is the fastest growing company in the emerging labor management category.

  • We continue to meet customers who are already communicating about work projects, and we'd like to announce Asana for Outlook, our new integration for Microsoft Outlook.
  • Since January, we've hired nearly a hundred new Asana employees in San Francisco, New York, and Dublin, helping Asana continue to grow globally. Because of this, we can support even more teams and organizations with clear goals, plans and responsibilities.

We support our customers to work more agile

Since our product launch more than six years ago, a growing number of organizations - from small businesses to the largest companies in the world - have chosen Asana to clarify their projects and processes. We're excited to see so many companies in a variety of industries trust Asana to help them meet their greatest goals and challenges. Customers like Coursera, Disney, Indeed, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Procter & Gamble, Samsung and Vox Media are now using Asana to clarify the plan, purpose and accountability within their teams.

Cristina Cerullo, Executive Creative Director at Vox Media recently told us, “With our work being so fast-paced and requiring multiple teams across the country to work together, Asana has become essential to our workflow. By optimizing our processes and providing a platform that ensures consistent and predictable communication for our teams, we have the space we need to create something new. "

We are especially inspired to hear how Asana is helping companies accomplish their missions. For the Concerted Care Group it is all about fighting the opioid epidemic. Speaking to CEO Andrey Ostrovsky recently, he said, “Using Asana enables everyone from the frontline addiction counselor to our CFO, the core issue we're trying to address, our specific goals, a prioritized list of actions, to keep an eye on who is responsible for these and when they are due. This sense of responsibility and support encourages and helps every employee, from our executives to the front line consultants, to understand everything. "

The growth drivers: international expansion, product innovation and large companies

We are proud of our results and we are grateful to our customers for walking this journey with us and our teammates at Asana for their passion and dedication to our mission. Crucial to our recent growth are the investments we are making in three areas: international growth, product innovation and supporting large companies.

International growth

The economic need for work management now exists worldwide. Asana currently serves millions of users in 194 countries. We continue to focus on scaling our international operations. We continue to experience strong growth worldwide and our international business now accounts for around half of our sales. At the beginning of this year, we also launched Asana in Spanish and Portuguese, after Asana in French and German, and Japanese is coming soon.

We have seen particularly strong growth in Europe as more organizations recognize the economic need for clarity. Our EMEA customer base now includes Adyen, City of Manchester, Air France KLM FSSC, Mulberry, Rovio and Vodafone.

When Air France and KLM merged in 2004, the workforce grew to 84,000, making the company the largest airline in Europe. The head of business development recently reached out to Asana to manage and coordinate the work of different teams that are in different locations and perform different functions. This enables him to lead large-scale projects to promote innovation and provide internal applications that are tailored to the needs of employees. “In terms of speed, we actually see that Asana brings us enormous efficiency gains when managing a project,” says Tamas Kadar, Business Development Manager at Air France KLM FSSC.

When asked why Adyen, a global payment company based in the Netherlands, chose Asana, Lei Wu, VP of Project Operations at Adyen, explained: “We recently decided to switch to Asana because it is intuitive, safe and robust enough to be used successfully by our team. Moving our organization to Asana was effortless because of its great ease of use. Using Asana is just as easy as using an iPhone - you just pick it up and know how to use it. "

Product innovation

This year, we've invested in shaping the future of Asana so that teams have powerful new ways to visualize their work, manage it more effectively, and achieve their most important goals. In March, we introduced the timeline to give teams an up-to-date idea of how all of their work is related. In May we released a new version of our Asana for Slack integration that continues to connect conversations with the structured system of recording work. We recently added the ability to manage approvals in Asana and improved our user interface to make Asana even easier to use.

We'd also like to introduce our latest product integration, Asana for Outlook, which enables users to respond to email in real time without leaving their inbox. We are happy to make the work of our Microsoft Outlook customers even easier and to offer them a new, easy way to manage their work without losing time or focus by switching between platforms. Asana's platform logic, combined with Microsoft's computerized learning capability, enables speech recognition in emails to suggest tasks based on action words and automatically insert task information.

This fall, we will continue to implement our product vision by delivering a range of features that combine day-to-day work with overarching goals and plans. With these new features, team leaders and planners can identify problems and opportunities across projects so that they can focus their attention and energy on where it is most effective. There will be more exciting announcements in the coming months.

Business growth

The larger the organization, the more complex the business requirements, which requires an even higher level of clarity and coordination to ensure that every team member is on the same page. Because of this, we are committed to expanding our offering for larger companies and becoming the work management tool of choice for large organizations.

We recently acquired SOC 2 Type 1 certification, which complements our certifications in accordance with the regulations for EU-USA data protection and Swiss-American data protection. To support large-scale deployment, we have also developed service accounts, user provisioning, SAML and API whitelisting. We will continue to focus on providing admin and security features that IT can use to support its workforce in a secure manner.

We have a broad vision for work management because we believe that all teams in an organization need more clarity: so that they know how their work relates to strategic goals. We are experiencing strong acceptance in all areas of the company, including product, human resource management and operations, where Asana is used in the execution of critical processes in order to fulfill the company's mission. We have seen particularly strong growth in marketing teams and are working on adding advanced workflows to our offering that are scalable to support even more complex marketing campaigns, launches and production processes.

A look into the future

We look forward to the rest of the year: our team continues to focus on making our mission a reality. We are redoubling our efforts on international growth plans, product roadmaps and company offerings. In order to meet the increasing demand for our products and to ensure the success of our customers, we are rapidly expanding our teams in San Francisco, New York and Dublin in the areas of development, product and business.

Asana was born from the idea that collaboration should be effortless. We're excited about our progress so far in 2018, and we're excited to see what the future holds for Asana, our customers, and our global community.
